Biography
Mezzo-Soprano Lindsey Paradise’s voice has been described as “feminine, rich, unique, lush, and lyrical with a sparkling brilliance that is expressed with ease.” Her voice traverses languages and styles, which has allowed her to portray characters such as Susan Sowerby in the East Coast, USA premiere of The Secret Garden. Ms. Paradise was praised for her interpretation and vocal lyricism, touted by The Manchester Journal as giving an “outstanding performance” while “offering up a number of delightfully animated moments.” Her portrayal of Miles in The Turn of the Screw was also distinguished in its reception. The DC Theater Arts wrote, “She does well portraying the frightened and confused child,” calling her “exceptional.” Other leading opera roles include Dido in Dido and Aeneas, Olga in Eugene Onegin, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Spring in Snegúrochka, L’Opinion Publique in Orphée aux Enfers, and Annina in La Traviata. She has performed several of these roles multiple times with various opera companies across the country. Among opera companies she has performed with are Bel Cantanti Opera, Opera Theatre of the Rockies, Hub Opera Ensemble, Knoxville Opera, Maryland Lyric Opera, and Opera Theatre of Weston.
She also has had the privilege of singing as a featured soloist in numerous concert performances of Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Mozart’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and Handel’s Messiah, as well as premiering at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in Janáček’s Diary of One Who Disappeared with Toby Spence.
The mezzo-soprano trained at the renowned New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, receiving a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance while studying under Delores Ziegler. After her undergraduate studies, she went on to pursue her Master of Music degree at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, having been awarded a full scholarship. During her Master’s, Ms. Paradise studied with Professor Marjorie Bennett Stephens and was part of the Knoxville Opera Studio as one of their Studio Artists, understudying roles and performing with the Knoxville Opera. While an apprentice with the Knoxville Opera, she was a finalist in the University of Tennessee Concerto Competition and was later chosen as a semi-finalist in the annual Meistersinger Competition in Graz, Austria.
When not performing, you can find Ms. Paradise teaching voice and trauma release to individuals as part of her virtual studio. She also enjoys teaching in a group setting, such as in college and university masterclasses. She tap dances regularly and enjoys learning about functional medicine and holistic healing with the aim of integrating this knowledge into her work as a performer and teacher.
